Call for FedDev Proposals: Industry Outreach Events

To raise awareness among small and medium-sized Ontario businesses about an opportunity to gain competitive advantage through joint pre-commercialization projects with Centennial, the Applied Research and Innovation Centre (ARIC) hosted two industry outreach events on February 24 and March 3, 2011. These workshops were information sessions on the Applied Research and Commercialization Initiative sponsored by FedDev Ontario. Centennial had received $525K to fund ten partnership projects through FedDev.

The first event was an outreach to the ICT Animation and Gaming sector. It was co-hosted by ARIC and Centennial’s School of Communications, Media and Design (SCMD), and coincided with the launch of the kidsmediacentre within SCMD. The workshop attracted over 100 attendees representing the most creative and innovative companies in the field.

The second event was an invitation to businesses in the industry sectors of Energy and ICT Wireless Networking. Over 40 professionals registered who were interested in developing their technologies in these industries through the FedDev program.

As a result, the two events helped to generate over 50 proposals for FedDev projects in collaboration with Centennial. With such a strong competitive field, it was a challenge to select ten projects. However, the ten successful projects were ultimately finalized by June 30, 2011. The projects are to be completed by March 31, 2012 and so there is much anticipation of highly positive results for the industry partners and Centennial, with all ten projects well underway.
